Keeping Engineering in Motion: Meet Nadir

Hi, I’m Nadir. If you’ve worked with Oadby Conveyors on material selection, if you operate a busy manufacturing line in the UK, are a designer, installer or maintain conveyor systems we may have already crossed paths. My job title is Product Manager and I am a mechanical engineer specialising in conveyor applications.

I have been with Oadby Plastics for 15 years, watching our warehousing and machining capabilities expand tremendously over the last decade and a half. What initially attracted me to the business – and what has kept me here for so long – is the sheer diversity of challenges we solve. In the conveyor sector, no two setups are identical. Having the autonomy to apply hard engineering principles to complex moving components makes every day unique.

What the Role Involves: From Concept to the Factory Floor

My primary responsibility is to specify, develop, and promote our comprehensive Conveyor Range, boosting our market presence while providing deep technical and commercial expertise.

A typical week for me involves a fine balance between internal planning and hands-on fieldwork. You might find me:

• Running precise belt calculations and advising clients directly on custom conveyor designs and system setups.
• Utilising advanced 3D scanning and digital metrology systems to capture exact geometries for reverse engineering.
• Managing OEM part conversions, turning worn or undocumented factory components into high-precision, optimised plastic alternatives.
• Drafting and creating technical drawings using Fusion 360 to bridge the gap between initial concepts and final production.
• Designing and delivering internal sales training to ensure our Customer Service Excellence (CSE) and help our teams stay fluent conveyor terminology and feel confident with part specification.
• Travelling to client locations across the UK to inspect production lines first-hand, dive into data, and talk strategy face-to-face.

I work heavily alongside our internal sales departments, external suppliers, and directly with client engineers to ensure every mechanical element functions flawlessly.

The Impact of Specialist Expertise

In custom manufacturing, small material choices heavily dictate overall downtime, efficiency, and cost. Conveyor layouts are dynamic ecosystems; selecting the wrong component or failing to plan for friction and load-bearing stress can cause an entire production line to freeze.

Because I view our solutions through a strict mechanical engineering lens, I focus heavily on accuracy and extensive due diligence. Outside of work, I love making things and even run my own personal 3D printer and CNC machine at home. This hands-on experience gives me a profound, practical understanding of exactly how different parts are manufactured and how raw materials behave under mechanical stress.

When a client loses an old OEM component that has no official drawings, I use our Technical and Reverse Engineering Services to digitise the worn part, fix design flaws in CAD, and machine a superior replacement. Putting Customer Service Excellence at the heart of our engineering choices means we don’t just sell components; we deliver reliability.

Rewarding Moments & Looking Forward

The most rewarding part of my 15-year career here is resolving long-standing client pain points. There is immense professional satisfaction in walking into a processing plant facing frequent breakdowns, evaluating their system data, and engineering a permanent, optimised design.

Looking ahead, I am incredibly excited about the future of conveyors and automation, keeping up to date with the latest advanced polymers, particularly seeing how evolving manufacturing processes like 3D printing are moving from hobbyist desks onto the factory floor. As the UK manufacturing landscape shifts toward tighter sustainability metrics and smarter machinery, Oadby Conveyors is perfectly positioned to lead the charge.
