Employee Spotlight - Nadir Sayani
Get to know the team behind Oadby Conveyors with our Employee Spotlight.
Meet Nadir Sayani, Business Manager. With a passion to learn new skills and an eagerness to pass on knowledge to his team, you can read what Nadir has to say below:
1. Describe yourself in 3 words
NS - Chain, belt, sprocket :-)
2. How long have you been working at Oadby Plastics/Conveyors?
NS - "I have been at Oadby Plastics for 12 Years and managing Oadby Conveyors for the last 7"
3. What inspired you to pursue the career you have today?
NS - "I like to help people, provide advice and use my expertise to solve problems. I have always been mechanically minded and am passionate about learning new skills and challenging myself. I have also realised how much I like teaching and coaching others so now spend a lot of time passing on my knowledge to my team and customers"
4. What does your job entail?
NS - "All things conveyor related. Helping customers with technical queries, advising on conveyor design, material and part selection, providing calculations and general problem solving. I also manage the sales team at Oadby Conveyors, develop the sales and marketing strategies for the product range and work closely with our suppliers on stock levels, pricing and availability"
5. What’s been your proudest accomplishment since working at Oadby Plastics?
NS - "Last year I completed my HNC in Mechanical Engineering which was a big accomplishment for me having been out of education for many years. Coping with this through lockdown via remote learning was quite a challenge but I am very proud to have completed the course with a distinction"
6.What’s the most exciting thing you are working on right now?
NS - "We are designing our own modular conveyor and I am using this as a teaching and marketing tool to show off our design and manufacturing capabilities. We have created a simple straight running conveyor in CAD to start with. We will machine the frame and body from a solid piece of plastic at our production facility in Leicester and I plan to let my team assemble the conveyor themselves to give them a hands-on experience of how a conveyor is constructed"
7. What was your first job?
NS - "I started working when I was 12 years old on the sweet stall at the local market in Grantham. I worked every Saturday from 6am to 4pm for just £10 a day! I could eat as many sweets as I wanted though, and the job taught me a lot about hard work and the value of money"
8. What one skill do you think everyone should learn?
NS - "Swimming. Not only is it a great and relaxing form of exercise but potentially a lifesaving skill that I think is essential for everyone to learn"
9. Recommend a TV show and/or book you have recently watched/read
NS - "The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce. It’s about a guy who ends up walking 600 miles to say goodbye to a friend. There are some funny and sad adventures along the way whilst recalling many memories"
10. What do you do for fun outside of work?
NS - "My girlfriend and I like to keep active so each week we do a mix of hiking, rock climbing, salsa, swimming, table tennis and then like to relax with a book or film. We also like to head out on my motorcycle if we have time when the weather is good"
11. Tell us one interesting thing about yourself that people maybe unaware of
NS - "I have a pet tortoise named Kausuki"
We would like to thank Nadir for taking the time to participate.
